Wenn es dem Esel zu gut geht, ….

dann begibt er sich aufs Glatteis!
Bei mir ist das dann so, dass ich frage: “Soll ich dir ein Ballkleid nähen?” Beim Zuschneiden frage ich mich zum ersten, aber nicht zum letzten Mal: “Warum hast du gefragt?”
Letztes Jahr habe ich meiner großen Tochter ein Ballkleid genäht, weil sie kein Ballkleid gefunden hat, das ihr gefallen hat. Da habe ich mir die erste Frage zum ersten Mal gestellt und dann folgte das eine nach dem anderen. Mittelkind wollte auch ein Kleid, kein Problem… Junior weiß Gott sei Dank, dass ich keine Anzüge nähen kann!
Projekt “Pretty in Pink” wurde gestartet und ich habe mich tapfer geschlagen. Ich finde fast keinen rosa Fäden mehr in der Wäsche und auch halbe Pailletten fliegen fast keine mehr im Haus herum.

Last year I have sewed a ball gown for my older daughter, because she didn`t find a dress she liked. That was the fist time I have asked this first question and then one thing came after the other. My middle daughter wanted a ball gown too, no problem….
Junior knows, thank God that I can’t sew a suit!
Project “pretty in pink” was started and I have put up a good fight and there are almost no pink threads in my landry any more and almost no half cut paillettes flying around in the house.

 

Auf diesem gecrashten Stoff sieht man natürlich die Radlmarkierungen nicht und so habe ich alles geheftet und geschlupferlt. ( Ist sehr meditativ!)

Aber tada: Pretty in Pink in Person, sogar das Tascherl habe ich dazu genäht. Die Sache mit dem Ausschnitt ist ein bisschen gewagt, aber wenn man in ihrem Alter nicht zeigen kann was man hat, wann dann?

Schnee / Snow

Dies ist der Blick aus meiner Eingangstür. Man merkt gar nicht, dass ich 3 Stunden davor pipifein Schnee geschaufelt habe. Jetzt am Nachmittag hat es aufgehört zu schneien, also ist eine Endreinigung fällig. Ein bisschen später.
Ich habe meine Projekte, die ich bis Anfang März fertig haben soll, zusammen geschrieben und es ist eine stattliche Liste geworden.

Erstens: der Sternenquilt für den UFO Abbau
Zweitens: der 18x18 Block des Crazy BOM
Drittens:” Streifen machen schlank” Challenge der österreichischen Patchwork Gilde.
Viertens: einen Stern in PP Methode
Fünftens: Pias Quilt (oh Gott, liegt der mir schwer im Magen)

 View from my front door. You can’t see that I have shoveled the driveway only 3 hours before I took the picture. It stopped snowing in the afternoon so shoveling is due again. A bit later.
I have made a list with all the projects that should be finished by the beginning of March, what a list!

First: star quilt for the UFO reduction
Second: 18x18 block for the Crazy BOM
Third: “ Stripes slenderize” challenge for the Austrian Patchwork Guild.
Fourth: a PP star
Fifth: Pia’s quilt ( oh dear, this one will be tough)

Zu Erstens kann ich sagen, es geht voran. Es war keine gute Entscheidung den weißen Stoff vom Ikea zu kaufen, lässt sich nicht so gut verarbeiten, bin schon gespannt, wie es sich quilten lässt.
Zu Zweitens, ich habe die AMC Block schon gestickt und werde mich ab dem Wochenende mit dem 18x18 Block geschäftigen. Wenn ich die Ergebnisse der anderen Mitverrückten sehe, dann bekomme ich ein bisschen Minderwertigkeitsgefühle. Ich tu halt so gut ich kann, es macht mir aber viel Spaß dabei.
Zu Drittens, Streifen machen schlank, wiedermal eine Challenge, diesmal von der österreichischen Gilde. 3 Personen nähen 6 Streifen, es sind diese Techniken vorgegeben: Applikation, Oberflächenveränderung, Blockhaus, freies Schneiden, Foundation Piecing und einen Block nach Wahl.
Jeder näht 2 Streifen und gibt sie dann weiter. Nach der dritten Runde bekommt man dann alle 6 Streifen zurück und kann es dann fertigstellen wie man will.
Zu Viertens, da muss ich noch die Kopien machen und dann….
Zu Fünftens, der Quilt hat Zeit bis Anfang Juni, trotzdem, er liegt mir im Magen.

To first: work in progress. It hasn’t been a good decision to buy the white fabric at IKEA’s, the fabric is not good to work with and I guess it will be hard to quilt.
To second: I have already finished the AMC crazy and this weekend I will start with the 18x18 block. When I see the other blocks of my participants,  I could get a little sense of inferiority. I do as good as I can and I like working on the crazy blocks.
To third: Stripes Slenderize, again a challenge this time organized by the Austrian Patchwork Guild. 3 people sew 6 stripes, 6 techniques are required: appliqué, blockhouse, foundation piecing, block of your own choice, surface modification and free cutting. Every one sews 2 stipes and hands it on to the next person. After the third round, the stripes come back to it’s owner and then it can be finished the way you want.
To fourth: I have to make the copies and then….
To fifth: time to finish till beginning of June, but it will get tough.

Irgendwie habe ich das Gefühl, dass die Zeit bis Anfang März verfliegen wird!

Fall Inspired Mini Quilt Swap

Am Montag ist der letzte Tag, um die Mini Quilts zu versenden und ich war ganz brav und habe meinen schon am Freitag auf die Reise nach England (GB) geschickt. Hoffentlich gefällt er seiner neuen Besitzerin. Ich mag die Designs von Ursula Schertz sehr gern und dieses Bild drückt mein Herbstfeeling ganz genau aus.

Coming Monday will be the last day to mail the mini quilts from this swap. I am a good girl and I have sent mine on it’s journey to Great Britain. I hope the receiver will like it. I like the designs of Ursula Schertz very much and this stitchery expresses my feelings perfectly.

Meine Schwägerin hat mir 3 Hefte aus New York mit gebracht, darin sind einfach unglaubliche Dinge zu sehen. Das meiste ist jenseits meiner Fähigkeiten, aber trotzdem schön zum Anschauen und Träumen!

My sister in law brought me 3 magazines from New York full of great projects, incredible! Most of it is beyond my skills, but nice to look at and dream about it!

Jetzt geht's los! / Here we go again!

UFO Abbau, die Erste.
Das ist mein erstes Projekt, das ich im Rahmen des UFO Abbaus bei Steffi angehen werde. Mein Großprojekt ist Pias Quilt, der muss bis Anfang Juni fertig werden und dazwischen habe ich noch eine Menge kleinerer Projekte, die ich gern fertig machen möchte. Manche muss ich sogar vorher abstauben...
Diese Sterne werden  mit der Hand zusammen genäht, dann brauchen sie noch etwas drum herum, ein bisschen quilten, ein Binding und fertig.
Ist vielleicht doch ein bisschen größeres Projekt als ich angenommen habe, also muss ich fleißig sein, sonst ist ein Stück Stoff fällig!

UFO reduction, the first.
This is my first project, which I am going to finish in line with Steffi. My major project will be Pia's quilt, it has to be finished by the beginning of June, but there are a lot of other smaller projects that wait to be finished. Some will need to be dusted ...
This stars will be sewn by hand, then they need something around them, a bit of quilting and a binding and finished.
Maybe this project is a little bigger than I thought, so I have to get busy elsewise I have to donate a fat quarter!

Heute war das Christkind da!
Traditionell gehen wir, die ganze Familie, um 16.00 Uhr zur Spital Kirche und hören dem Hirtenberger Bläserensemble zu,die lauter einheimische Lieder spielen. Ist nach den vielen amerikanischen Weihnachtsliedern eine angenehme Abwechslung! Nicht falsch verstehen, ich liebe die amerikanischen Weihnachtslieder, aber wenn es dann immer näher zur Bescherung kommt, dann möchte ich Stille Nacht, es wird scho glei dumper und all die anderen traditionellen deutschen (österreichischen) Lieder hören. Ist halt so, das hört es sich auf mit der Globalisierung!

Finally it was here, the Christkind!
Traditionally we, the whole family, go to listen to the wind section of the Hirtenberg Music group, which are playing traditional, local Christmas chorals. After all those American Christmas songs it is a nice change. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but the closer it gets to gift giving the more I want to hear music from my childhood.

Hier ist der Adventkalender im Ganzen zu sehen, jetzt hängt er noch bis zum 6. Jänner und geht dann bis nächsten Dezember schlafen.

Her you can see the advent calendar with all doors opened, he will hang on the wall till the 6 th of January and will sleep in a closet till next December.

Das Christkind hat es dieses Jahr sehr gut mit mir gemeint und mir etwas ganz Tolles gebracht, nämlich einen Kindle. Mein Göga hat ihn bei amazon.com bestellt und mir damit eine Riesenfreude gemacht. 100 000 Bücher in Einem. Per Kreditkarte (es gibt immer einen Haken) kann man sich jede Menge Bücher herunterladen, auch Zeitschriften und Zeitungen. Die Bücher sind auf englisch, es gibt 2 deutsche Zeitungen, die FAZ und das Handelsblatt. OK, die werde ich nicht zu lesen beginnen...
People Magazine ist auch (noch) nicht erhältlich, wer weiß, was da alles noch kommt.
Als Probe habe ich mir The Host (Seelen) von Stephenie Meyer und Pillars of the Earth (Die Säulen der Erde) von Ken Follett herunter geladen. Man kann die Schrift vergrößern und die Schrift ist so gut zu lesen, wie von einem Blatt Papier. Jetzt habe ich Zeit zum Lesen und ich werde den Kindle probieren. Und meine Augen. Und wie es sich mit dem Kindle im Bett lesen lässt!
Dann ist da noch eine Sache, die vielen Knöpfe. Die auf denen A, B, C bis Z stehen, werde ich bald beherrschen, aber dann sind noch ein paar andere, um die werde ich mich näher beschäftigen müssen. Das hält die grauen Zellen jung!
Das Gerät als Ganzes ist wunderschön vom Design, weiß, sehr schlank und leicht. Ich freu mich schon darauf, es besser kennen zu lernen!

The Christkind ment it very well with me and brought me a Kindle. My DH ordered it at amazon.com and he just found the right gift for me.
100 000 books in one. Per credit card ( there had to be a little draw back) you can order a lot of books, even magazines and journals. The books are in English, there are two magazines in German, the FAZ and the Handelsblatt. OK, I am not going to start to read them...
People magazine is not jet available , who knows what will be available next year.
As a test I downloaded the Host by Stephenie Meyer and Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. You can change the size of the letters and you can read from the Kindle like from the pages of a book. Now I have time to read and to examine the Kindle. And my eyes. And how it is to read in bed!
There is an other matter, it has a lot of buttons. I think I can manage the buttons labeled A to Z pretty soon but there are some more that will need my attention. Keeps my gray matter young!

The device as a whole is gorgeous, the design is swell, very slim and light. It will be a nice time getting to know it better!

Vollständiges Album anzeigen

Einmal noch schlafen und dann ist das Christkind da! Es ist nur noch ein Türchen geschlossen und deshalb zeige ich den ganzen Kalender noch einmal. In den Tiefen des Computers habe ich die Bilder von Irenes Kalender gefunden, der mir als Vorbild gedient hat.
Wie man sieht, habe ich die Farben geändert und auch ein paar andere Motive gewählt. Die Bilder im Album sind etwas unscharf, aber man bekommt eine Idee davon, wie unterschiedlich die beiden Kalender sind.

Only one sleep and the Christkind is here! There is only one closed door at the advent calendar and so I show it to you again. In the dephts of our computer I have found the pictures of Irene's calendar, which was the example for my calendar.
As you can see I have changed the colors and I have chosen some other motives. The album's pictures are a bit out of focus, but you can get the idea how different they are.
